This piece of work is dedicated to the relationship between the human and the animal realm in a time of low levels of understanding.
Some years ago while traveling in a national park, I became intensely aware and somewhat disturbed by the way humans and animals interact. The humans seemed incapable of perceiving the subtle boundary cues that the animals were trying to set. In that moment insight into ‘Buffalo’ emerged for me. I became inspired to create a bridge between the worlds and enable others to connect more deeply with nature.
I spent several months contemplating the mystical nature of the animals that appear in the deck as well as doing research into indigenous symbology. This piece of work is a synthesis of what I learned. I spent several joyous months with my desk on my veranda in Durban, with creatures appearing to greet and inform me. Many others were met at National Parks in South Africa.
This ‘deck of cards’ is of divinatory nature. Choose a card and receive a message from the animal. It works equally well if you actually see the animal or bird.
